August 12, 2001 A cool announcement today. CROD Productions has just purchased the domain name... www.KURTRAMBIS.com ! I am currently working on it and will let you know when it is up an running. I am looking into some redirection sites so that kurtrambis.com will bring you right here. This domain will remain as well. But I just figured that it would be cool to own an official domain name. The Second cool thing is something we've been waiting for , for a looooooong time. Thanks to the nice people at the Santa Clara University Media Relations Department and our good buddy Tony Arellano, I have finally opened a section devoted to Kurt's COLLEGE YEARS at SCU. Make sure you check it out. These pictures are on the net for the FIRST TIME ANYWHERE! Leave it to this page to bring you time after time of Rambis firsts. July 16, 2001 More contact with Kurt...well sorta. As I mentioned last update, Jason Lam of LakersGround caught up with Kurt for an interview. Jason let me know that he said "Hi" for me...Kurt told him to say "Hi" back and also mentioned that I was a "good guy." July 13, 2001 Well Rambo fans, Kurt has officially gotten back into coaching. Both he and Laker assistant Jim Cleamons are coaching the Lakers Summer Pro Team. Jason Lam, of the Lakersground caught up with Kurt after Thursday's win over the Kings. Check it out by CLICKING HERE. July 7, 2001 Well it finally happened (2001 Space Odyssey begins to play) but On Tuesday Morning, July 3rd, at 12:17 in the afternoon....I received an email from the MAN himself. In it Kurt wrote: "James, Sorry it's taken so long to respond. I visited your (my) site and was absolutely amazed. I don't even want to think about how many hours it must have taken you to build it. But it's GREAT!!!! I don't know if you have heard but Phil asked me to join him on the bench next season. I'm real excited about getting back into coaching. Bertka and Tex have been asked to perform other tasks for Phil. Hope all is going well with you. Again I really enjoyed visiting your home page especially the parts about high school. It brought back alot of fond memories. Kurt" My dream has come true and all the hard work I've put into this site has finally paid off. I just want to thank Kurt for taking the time to write me about the site. I hope we can set up more with him in the future. June 29, 2001 "I felt it was time to bring Kurt in and give him the opportunity to be part of this staff," Jackson said. "It's the right time with the young players that we have and with the energy that we kind of need. I realize you need to be able to understand hip hop and at least some rap terms if you're going to exist and survive in this business." June 27, 2001 Great news today. It appears that Kurt will be back on the bench next season as one of Phil Jackson's assistant coaches. Long time Laker Bill Bertka will move into a consulting position with LA. With Tex Winter contemplating retirement, Rambis looks like he'll take over the Lakers in three seasons when Phil's contract runs out. The LA Times reports that since Rambis has always been a favorite of Mitch Kupchak and Jerry Buss. LA Times writer Tim Brown thinks "Rambis' move--from front office to the bench--would appear to affirm him as Jackson's heir apparent. " June 23, 2001 He smiled walking up to us and said "You got the stuff for me?" I was thrilled he remembered. I gave him the booklet and he laughed as soon as he saw the screen shot of the Front Page. He pointed to the pic of him in the tux and said "What is that?" I said jokingly "I'm not sure who that is." He responded "I know WHO it is...I wanna know where you got it." we laughed. HE skimmed through it and I told him its got so much stuff about him on it. I told him "Even your biology partner from H.S. sent me some great pic of you." He belted out a great laugh. I asked him if he'd sign some stuff for me and he said 'sure.' I had a Lakers jersey that I had made that I'm trying to get the 1987 team to sign. So far all I had was Magic. I needed the sig on the mesh so that's tough to sign. He took his time and said "I never could write ont hese things." But he signed a great big auto right under Magic. Right on cue, my girlfriend asked him if he'd sign a purple Rambis jersey I had. He happily signed it. he then took a picture with the two of us and said "Why do I get the feeling this is gonna show up on the webpage?" We laughed again. He shook our hands and said he'd check it out. He walked off and got onto a bus that pulled up for the media June 14, 2001 I updated the Rambis Highschool section with some new pictures I made. I'd like to thank to Tony Arellano, Cupertino High School class of 76, who contributed the yearbooks scans. Check it out. June 11, 2001 Well I wasn't sure this would ever happen again, but I ran into Kurt yesterday for the first time in a long time. We went down to Philly to see the Laker at their hotel. I was in my Laker gear so the Philly fans wanted us hung. We were about to leave and I wanted to stick around for Jerry Buss to come out. Good thing we did cause soon after Kurt appeared. I was shocked. I didn't even know he was in "Filth-adelphia." He signed my 2000 Championship jersey and I told him about the site. I gave him the address and he said he would check it out. He was so nice. I'm gonna try to go back on Wednesday. If I do I'll be prepared and will give you all a full report. May 4, 2001 Another great honor for Laker Jim's Kurt Rambis Homepage. The site was profiled as SITE OF THE WEEK in SCD (Sports Collectors Digest) in the May 18th issue. I'd like to thank Tom Kessenich for a great write up. SCD is the top publication when it comes to collectors of memorabilia. See the article above. On the
Kurt front, things have been quiet. He recently appeared
for one of the sponsors at the Anaheim Medical Trade show
with my buddy John Salley and James Worthy. |
